Warranty

A $100,000 backstop, and an honest account of its limits

CY6 clients on Complete running our full security stack are backed by a $100,000 cybersecurity warranty. It exists because we are willing to stand behind the stack we deploy. It is not insurance, and this page spends as much time on that as on the number.

How it works

Why a warranty exists at all

Security vendors have started warranting their own technology. If the stack is deployed correctly and something still gets through, the warranty pays out. It is the security industry putting money behind its own product claims, which for a long time it did not.

In practice it means the provider recommending the controls has something to lose if those controls fail. We think that is the right way round.

What has to be true

  • The client is under an active CY6 coverage agreement.
  • The full security stack is deployed as designed, on every device in scope.
  • Controls have not been disabled or bypassed at the client's request.
  • The claim falls within the categories and limits the warranty covers.
  • Notification and cooperation requirements are met during an incident.

The condition that catches people out is the second one. A warranty on a stack deployed to eighteen of your twenty machines is a warranty with a hole in it, which is why we push hard on full coverage rather than partial.

What it is not

  • A warranty is not cyber insurance and does not replace it. We will tell you this every time it comes up.
  • It does not cover business interruption, legal defence, regulatory fines or reputational loss the way a policy can.
  • It is a backstop attached to the technology, not a policy underwritten to your specific risk.
  • If you do not carry cyber insurance, we will say so during onboarding and keep saying it.
Our position

Carry cyber insurance. Then treat the warranty as what it is — a second layer that costs you nothing, sitting behind a policy that does the heavy lifting. Any provider who offers you a warranty as a reason to skip insurance is doing you harm.

This page is a summary written in plain language. The warranty documentation is the document that governs, and where the two differ, it wins. Ask us for a copy before you rely on anything here — we would rather you read it.

Want to know whether your firm would qualify?

Full coverage is the condition that matters. Twenty minutes is usually enough to tell you whether your environment could be brought to that standard, and roughly what it would take.
